Recent brain research tells us that positive early experiences forge the foundations for lifelong learning and behaviour. A rich nurturing environment is required to optimise the development of each child.
The research has also provided us with a better understanding of the critical periods of learning. These critical periods, better known as "windows of opportunity", are most effective in forging connections in wiring the brain.
It is during these critical periods that positive experiences may be most beneficial in the developmental process. Some of these windows begin opening before birth and then narrow as a child grows older. If a child misses an opportunity, his or her brain may not develop its circuitry to its full potential for a specific function.
The Early Years
Your child is born with a tremendous potential to learn. A great deal of this is accomplished in the first few years of life. It is during these early years that his brain is wired up with the circuits that make the intelligence work.
Your child is unique in his own ways. When your child enters pre-school, he is capable of doing many different things with different levels of competency. Therefore learning in the early years must provide opportunities for your child to learn and excel in multiple ways. The following components form the basis of our EdnoLand programme.
